Broome is in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia.
Situated on the banks
of the Yanko Creek.
• 300 cows run on just over 1100 hectares (3330 acres).
Predominantly native pasture with 300 acres of irrigated pasture.
Temperature ranges from 2°C ( 39°F) to up to 45°C (113°F)
Average annual rainfall of 350 mm (14").
History
of Broome Cattle Stud
1933 Purchase of 2 foundation yearling
shorthorn heifers from neighboring Lone Pine herd
1937 purchased a further 5 heifers also from Lone Pine
1945 purchased
7 more foundation yearling heifers and one stud heifer
These original
Lone Pine animals were the basis of the Broome Stud Herd
Only 15 other females were introduced
into the Broome stud.
• The Broome stud herd were all descendants of these 19 cows.
1998 saw an expansion into stud angus, these animals were later dispersed in 2006.
In November 2010 The Broome stud shorthorn herd was dispersed.
Broome currently runs a commercial cow herd
A small shorthorn stud now trades as Leeds shorthorns.

first female to judge shorthorns at a royal show in Australia.
